Dance Show For Young Cancer Patient

During the December school holiday, Adriaan Marais, Grade 11 (Dance), Pro Arte Alphen Park, presented a show to raise funds for the 9-year-old Lee-Adri Vlok. Lee-Adri was diagnosed with muscle and tissue cancer in November 2011, forcing her mother to resign and look after her full time.
Adriaan immediately worked on a show to raise funds for Lee-Adri by adding new pieces to his previously choreographed dances. He used his Fusion dance group, of which Lee-Adri is also a member,
Adriaan started his Fusion dance group to help other children, when he was only 15 years old. It was his dream to teach dance to children who sometimes grow up in challenging circumstances. Laerskool Saamspan, Adriaan’s old primary school, allows the group to use their school hall free of charge. Adriaan also teaches these children for free.
He believes that dance helps to improve self esteem and promotes excellence. Adriaan has received thank you letters from parents whose children have also drastically improved their academic performance at the end of 2011. He says: “Pro Arte Alphen Park has helped me to make my dance and choreography dreams come true, and it is the best high school I could have chosen. Any child, who is serious about art, should come to our school.”
Adriaan said about the show: “I am thankful to say that we raised R10 500 for Lee-Adri. She is a courageous girl, who was part of our Fusion group winning the freestyle section of the International Fine Arts Association’s dance competition, with our production titled Bionic. We pray for Lee-Adri’s healing.” Pro Dance! Pro Outreach!
