Auditions – Information

Gr8-9 Learning Areas

  • All learning areas are compulsory.
  • Second Additional Language is compulsory.

A learner MUST select one focus area from the following group:

  • Art & Design
  • Dance Studies
  • Dramatic Studies
  • Enterprise Management (with Accounting as the main subject choice)
  • Hospitality Studies
  • Music Studies

Gr10-12 Learning Areas

Subject choices for Grade 10-12 consist of compulsory subjects (Group A) as well as choice subjects (Group B).

Group A – Compulsory Subjects

A learner must take four subjects from this group, namely:

  • English Home Language
  • Afrikaans First Additional Language
  • Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy
  • Life Orientation

Group B – Choice Subjects

A learner must select three subjects from this group

  • Accounting
  • Business Studies
  • Computer Applications Technology
  • Dance Studies
  • Design
  • Dramatic Arts
  • Economics
  • French – 2nd Additional Language
  • Geography
  • History
  • Hospitality Studies
  • Information Technology
  • Life Sciences
  • Music
  • Physical Sciences
  • Tourism
  • Visual Arts

AUDITIONS – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please take note of the following:

  • A copy of the learner’s birth certificate and/ or I.D., the most recent report, as well as a copy of the Parents’/Guardians’ Identity Documents must accompany the application form.
  • The attached L27 must be completed by the learner’s present school as soon as possible and returned to us.
  • An administration fee of R30-00 must accompany your application. This is a non-refundable fee used to cover the costs of administering every audition/re-audition.
  • B: Candidates must bring a pen to the audition.

 

The auditions for the various focus groups entail the following:

ART

Candidates must bring along an A4-sized self-portrait (head and shoulders) sketched in grey pencil, as well as a HB pencil, eraser, sharpener, a no. 3-5 paintbrush with a round point and a watch. They will be required to audition for the following:

Gr 8 to 11:

* Drawing, Design, Painting

DRAMA

Speech: Speak about yourself and your interests. If English is your language of teaching and learning, your speech must be in Afrikaans.

Poem: Prepare to recite a published poem.

Monologue: One character from a published play.

All of the above works must be fully memorized.
Candidates will not be allowed to continue with the audition if not fully prepared.
Candidates must be dressed in black.

These works must be memorized as no cue cards or prompting will be allowed. Candidates must also bring copies of these three works to the audition.

There will also be an interview in Afrikaans and English to ascertain the learner’s improvisation skills.

DANCE

Grade 8 – 10: Consists of a ballet class assessment to ascertain dance ability and aptitude towards dance.

Grade 10: Learners must have passed an Intermediate Foundation ballet exam or equivalent examination.

Grade 11: By appointment only. Learners will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances.

Clothing: Leotard or tight fitting full piece swimming costume, tights or jazz pants and requirements: a soft pair of ballet shoes, Jazz shoes or bare foot (no tackies).

HOSPITALITY

Gr 8 – 11: 

* No audition. Learner will be assessed on latest school report.

MUSIC

Grade 8:
* Must preferably be able to read notes – not compulsory
* Music Theory – can be beginner
* Must be able to play at least one instrument on grade 1-standard

 Grade 9: 
* Must be able to read notes
* Music Theory – at least grade 2-standard
* Must be able to play at least one instrument on grade 2-standard

 Grade 10:
* Must be able to read notes
* Music Theory – at least grade 3-standard
* An instrument on minimum grade 3-standard

 Grade 11:
* Must be able to read notes
* Music Theory – at least grade 4-standard
* First instrument on minimum grade 5-standard
* A second instrument on minimum grade-4 standard

 Graad 12:

* Learners will only be accepted in highly exceptional cases.

 Candidates must bring a pencil and an eraser.

ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT

Gr 8 and 9:
* No audition. Learner will be assessed on latest school report.

Gr 10 and 11:
* Learners will be evaluated on their general knowledge of the business world as well as on their knowledge of the previous year’s Accounting. A personal interview in both English and Afrikaans will be conducted with every candidate. The evaluation will take approximately 90 minutes.

Candidates must bring a pen and a calculator.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • OFFICIAL WRITTEN NOTIFICATION REGARDING ADMISSION WILL BE FORWARDED TO YOU AFTER ACCEPTANCE.
  • NO APPLICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED AND/OR PROCESSED UNLESS THE MOST RECENT REPORT, COPY OF THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND L27 FORM HAS BEEN RECEIVED, AS WELL AS A COPY OF THE PARENTS’/GUARDIANS’ IDENTITY DOCUMENTS AND PROOF OF RESIDENCE.
  • ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE AT THE SCHOOL BY 07:00 AT THE LATEST. AUDITIONS COMMENCE PUNCTUALLY AT 08:00.The duration of the audition varies from department to department, depending on the nature of the audition, the number of candidates, etc.
  • Once the candidates have dispersed from the hall at 08:15, a Coffee Shop will be open in the Andantè Restaurant up to 11:00. Parents are welcome to enjoy refreshments while waiting for their children.
  • PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD ARRIVES TIMEOUSLY AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCOMMODATE LATECOMERS AT THE LAST MINUTE.
  • NB! PLEASE ONLY USE THE ROELINE STREET ENTRANCE.
