Gr 8 - 9 Learning areas

Gr 10 - 12 Learning areas

Subject choices for Grade 10-12 consist of compulsory subjects (Group A) as well as choice subjects (Group B).

GROUP A – COMPULSORY SUBJECTS

A learner must take four subjects from this group, namely:

  • Two official languages
  • Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy
  • Life Orientation

GROUP B – CHOICE SUBJECTS

A learner must select three subjects from this group

Auditions
Please take note of the following:

A copy of the learner's birth certificate and/ or I.D., the most recent report, as well as a copy of the Parents' / Guardians' Identity Documents must accompany the application form.

The attached L27 must be completed by the learner's present school as soon as possible and returned to us.

An administration fee of R30-00 must accompany your application. This is a non-refundable fee used to cover the costs of administering every audition/re-audition.

NB: Candidates must bring a pen to the audition.

The auditions entail the following:

ART: Candidates must bring along an A4-sized sized self-portrait sketched in grey pencil, as well as a HB, 2B and 4B pencil, eraser, sharpener, a no. 3-5 paintbrush with a round point and a watch. They will be required to audition for the following:

Gr 8 to 11:       Drawing, Design, Painting

DRAMA:
* Prose:
A passage from a published work (novel, essay, short story, children's story), where you as interpreter vary between narration (being the narrator) and portraying various characters.

* Speech
Speak about yourself and your interests. If English is your H ome Language, your speech must be in Afrikaans.

* Monologue:
An extract from a published play portraying a specific character where props and other characters are either mimed or imagined.

* Own choice:
If you posses any other performing talents, be it singing or dancing, then this can be additionally prepared.

All of the above works must be fully memorized.

The program must not exceed 5 minutes

Candidates will not be allowed to continue with the audition if not fully prepared.

Candidates must be dressed in black.

These works must be memorized as no cue cards or prompting will be allowed. Candidates must also bring copies of these three works to the audition.

There will also be an interview in Afrikaans and English to ascertain the learner's improvisation skills.

MUSIC: Evaluation of theory, performance on an instrument(s), scales and aural tests.

Gr 8 and 9: 2 pieces on the first instrument

Gr 10 and 11: 2 pieces on the first instrument and 2 pieces on the second instrument

Candidates must bring a pencil and an eraser.

DANCE:

Grade 8 - 10: Consists of a ballet class assessment to ascertain dance ability and aptitude towards dance.

Grade 10: Learners must have passed an Intermediate Foundation ballet exam or equivalent examination.

Grade 11: By appointment only. Learners will only be accepted on exceptional circumstances.

Clothing: Leotard or tight fitting full piece swimming costume, tights or jazz pants and

Requirements: a soft pair of ballet shoes (no takkies).

HOSPITALITY STUDIES:

A personal interview in both English and Afrikaans will be conducted with every candidate.

ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT:

Gr 8 and 9: Learners will be evaluated on their general knowledge of the business world.

The Accounting skills required of Gr 9 candidates will also be evaluated.

A personal interview in both English and Afrikaans will be conducted with every candidate. The evaluation will take approximately 75 minutes.

Candidates must bring a pen and a calculator.

Gr 10 and 11:

Learners will be evaluated on their general knowledge of the business world as well as on their knowledge of the previous year's Accounting.

A personal interview in both English and Afrikaans will be conducted with every candidate. The evaluation will take approximately 90 minutes.

Candidates must bring a pen and a calculator.

PLEASE NOTE: OFFICIAL WRITTEN NOTIFICATION REGARDING ADMISSION WILL BE FORWARDED TO YOU AFTER 30 SEPTEMBER 2009.

NO APPLICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED AND/OR PROCESSED UNLESS THE MOST RECENT REPORT, COPY OF THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND L27 FORM HAS BEEN RECEIVED, AS WELL AS A COPY OF THE PARENTS'/GUARDIANS' IDENTITY DOCUMENTS AND PROOF OF RESIDENCE.

ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE AT THE SCHOOL BY 07:30 AT THE LATEST. AUDITIONS COMMENCE PUNCTUALLY AT 08:00. The duration of the audition varies from department to department, depending on the nature of the audition, the number of candidates, etc.

Once the candidates have dispersed from the hall at 08:15, a Coffee Shop will be open in the Andantè Restaurant for the duration of the auditions. Parents are welcome to enjoy refreshments while waiting for their children.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD ARRIVES TIMEOUSLY AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCOMMODATE LATECOMERS AT THE LAST MINUTE.
