3.1 OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD - JEETESH MANILALL
This award is presented to the learner who excelled in a leadership role.
Jeetesh is an admirable recipient of this award. His leadership qualities were personified both by his excellent communication skills as well as the gentle way in which he motivated and directed his fellow learners. This he did while always staying true to the high moral values he set to himself.
He demonstrated his personal leadership skills by working hard, and in this way leading by example, in order to invoke a positive spirit within the school community. His positive approach as well as the many initiatives he embarked on will always be remembered.
We wish him the best of luck for the future.
3.2 FINESSE TOEKENNING - GRACE SONO
This award is made to the most refined learner with regard to neatness on his/her person, work and relationships.
Grace is a refined young lady, always well-groomed, and upholding excellent relationships with her peers and educators alike. She always behaves with style and dignity, and her personal interaction can be described as courteous, considerate and respectful. Her appearance and manners are always impeccable, her work has been neat, and the way that she applies herself epitomizes an ideal for all Pro Arte Alphen Park learners.
As a well groomed young lady, she is proud of her appearance under all circumstances. Her behavior and appearance typifies her high personal values and standards.
We are proud to present this award to Grace. She is a worthy recipient.
3.3 HUMAN RELATIONS AWARD - JEETESH MANILALL
This award is presented to the learner who, at all times, demonstrated good human relations in his/her interaction with teachers, fellow learners and workers on the premises.
Jeetesh is the personification of what human relations at their best should look like. With his gentle and soft-spoken manner he has the unique ability to put people at ease, while always staying true to himself. He always treats teachers and fellow-learners with reverence and respect.
His charm and his friendly disposition, as well as his positive outlook, will stand him in good stead in future, and he is the obvious choice for this award.
3.4 TOEWYDINGSTOEKENNING - AMORé DU PLESSIS
Hierdie toekenning word gemaak aan 'n leerder wat ten volle toegewy is aan sy/haar skolastiese werk
Amoré was deur haar hele skoolloopbaan ten volle toegewy aan beide haar akademiese vakke sowel as aan haar gekose fokusarea, Musiek. Haar entoesiasme en fokus in hierdie verband het haar as een van die toppresteerders in haar groep laat uitstaan, en sy het deurgaans gepoog om ‘n balans te handhaaf tussen die eise van haar fokusarea en haar akademiese vakke.
Omdat sy 'n gemaklike en aangename persoonlikheid het, kon sy die druk van haar akademiese werk en die eise van haar fokusarea - Musiek - hanteer, en as hoogs-gemotiveerde jong dame het sy haarself bewys as betroubaar, hardwerkend en toegewyd.
Amoré is 'n waardige ontvanger van hierdie toekenning.
3.5 BRENT HISCOCK AWARD FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE – JEETESH MANILALL
This trophy is awarded to a grade 12-learner for outstanding service to the school regarding humanitarian and social contributions. He/she went out of the way to improve the level and character of school life, as well as uplifting the reputation of the school in general.
Jeetesh is the logical recipient of this award. As president of the Elected Learner representative Council he put his heart and soul into uplifting the school community. His calm and gentle presence at school functions as well as his willingness to initiate new events personified a person who does not put himself first, but wants to serve the school community as to the best of his abilities.
Jeetesh is a worthy recipient of this award.

The grade 12-learner with the highest average receives an honorary shield, honorary certificate and medal.
ASHLIN GAREEB – AVERAGE OF 84%
The University of Pretoria is also presenting a bursary to the Dux-learner on condition that he/she will further his/her studies with them. This bursary will cover the initial registration fees.
Mr Charles Persence, representing the University of Pretoria, was present on the evening to award this bursary to Ashlin Gasreeb.

SPECIAL AWARD TO EX-LEARNER - NICOLE FERREIRA
We are proud to give recognition to past learners who have excelled in various walks of life. They receive an honorary certificate and a gold medal.
Ex-Learners
BURNISE SILVIUS
Burnise Silvius was born in Pretoria and began dancing lessons at the age of four, studying at Pro Arte School, Pretoria and privately with Paula Olivier and Catherine Burnett.
She joined the State Theatre Ballet (then PACT Ballet) in 1994, winning the Madge Cade Award for the Most Promising Aspirant Dancer and graduated to the corps de ballet. She was promoted to Principal Dancer in 1999. As a professional dancer, she competed in the 1997 Sanlam International Competition in Pretoria and was placed second in the professional category and won the Best Solo Performance Award.
After the closure of The State Theatre Ballet in 2000 Burnise was invited to dance with the Hong Kong Ballet and joined the company as a senior soloist, participating in a European tour.
In 2001 Burnise returned to South African to join the newly formed South African Ballet Theatre as a Principal Dancer. Her roles for SABT have included the title roles in 'Giselle' and Veronica Paeper's 'Carmen', Odette/Odile in 'Swan Lake', Swanhilda in 'Coppélia', Juliet in 'Romeo and Juliet', the 'Flower Festival at Genzano' pas de deux and 'Napoli Act III' for the Royal Danish Ballet collaboration, the title role in 'Papillon', Ophelia in Kenneth Greve's 'Hamlet' and the title role in Cinderella'. Burnise was part of the group of SABT dancers who performed with the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen in September 2003.
In February 2004 Burnise was the recipient of the second Geoffrey Nieman and Brian van Rheede Award for her portrayal of 'Carmen'.
In the beginning of 2004 Burnise guested with the National Ballet of Canada as a Soloist and took leave of absence from SABT to guest with the company in the latter part of 2004 and into 2005. While in Canada she performed in Madame Butterfly, James Kudelka's 'The Nutcracker', Magdalena Popa's 'La Sylphide' and Suzanne Farrell'’s 'Serenade'.
In May 2005 she returned to South Africa to guest with SABT as Camille in 'La Traviata' (partnered by Guillaume Côté) and as Aurora in 'The Sleeping Beauty' (partnered by Michael Revie and Kimbrian Bergh). Burnise rejoined SABT full-time in September 2005 performing in 'Rock-a-Tutu' as Princess Rose, the title role in 'Cinderella' as well as the Gold Lady in 'Who Cares?'.
Burnise also toured with The SABT to Russia where her performance of the 'Le Corsaire' pas de deux was tremendously well received. Since then, she has appeared in the title roles of ballets such as 'Coppelia', 'Who Cares?'’, 'Hamlet', 'The Nutcracker' Romeo & Juliet' and 'Don Quixote'.
She is currently performing the title role of Rose in 'Rock-a-Tutu' at the SA State Theatre until December 14th 2008 and will be seen in the title role of ‘Cinderella’ from March 20th 2009 at The Johannesburg Civic Theatre.
NICOLE FERREIRA
Nicole was born in Pretoria and began her dance training at age five with Diane Cassidy, Joy Cooper and Michelle Naude. She trained in classical ballet, Spanish dance and modern dance at Pro Arte Alphen Park High School. Nicole obtained her RAD Advanced 2 with distinction in 2005 and in 2006, received her Cecchetti Advanced 2 level as well as Grade 4 Spanish Dance Society syllabus.
In 2004 she won the RAD Intermediate Bursary and that same year won the JAM Choreographic Competition for juniors. She received a Special Mention at the RAD Advanced 1 and attended the Bartholin Dance Workshop on Copenhagen in 2005.
In 2006 she was the runner – up at the Cecchetti Advanced II Bursary Awards and won the RAD Advanced II Bursary.
She was nominated Junior Dancer of the Year at Pro Arte in 2002 and 2003 and received the School's Margot Fonteyn Trophy for Excellence in Dance in 2003 and 2004. That same year she participated in the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland. Nicole received the Jazz Dancer of the Year award in 2005 and the Letitia Muller Trophy for Excellence in Dance the following year.
In 2007, she was accepted into The SABT’s Graduate programme appearing in the Company's seasons of Romeo & Juliet, Ballet Highlights, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. She also appeared in the broadcast of Swan Lake on SABC 2 in December 2007.
Nicole was accepted into the Corps de Ballet in January 2008 and appeared in the Company's seasons of The Sleeping Beauty, Autumn Enchantment, Don Quixote (on a sold-out tour to The National Arts Festival, Grahamstown), FNB’s La Traviata-the Ballet as well as the pop ballet Rock-a-Tutu at The SA State Theatre, Pretoria .
